Etsy Virtual Labs: Broadcasting from the Summit of Awesome
I couldn’t scrape up enough dough to attend the Summit of Awesome so I was really excited to see that Etsy was broadcasting some of the lectures via their Virtual Labs for free! This is my first ever virtual lab session so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was surprisingly very similar to a real classroom. There are seats (very crowded on this one, I had to wait a few minutes to score a seat), lots of mundane chatter before the lecture started, rowdy obnoxious people who throw bombs, cupcakes and beer (you’d just have to see for yourself) and lots of audiovisual problems. The admin was very quick to deal with the problems though and the hecklers and the chatter, well you just have to ignore them. Most people quieted down when the lecture started.
The lecture for today was called “Online Marketing Mistakes”, given by Sister Diane Gilleland-Parsons of craftypod. It was chock full of good tips and ideas about how to write relevant and meaningful content for your online audience. I realized that I have been guilty of sounding like, as Sister Diane put it, “a very loong advertisement.” So sorry for that. I have seen the error of my ways and I will endeavor to not be a a part of the online clutter out there.
Anyway, I will be tuning in to the rest of the Etsy Labs: Summit of Awesome series. You can view the scheduled virtual classes here. See you guys in class
