Hand Painted “Poppy” Teacups
I saw an Etsy tutorial for a hand painted teacup form my friend Natasha’s feed. I’m not really a tea drinker but this appealed to my “little women” sensibilities so I had to try it. I chose to doodle on a plain white china from the World Market which was fairly inexpensive, about $2 a piece. The Porcelaine pens were a little bit more pricey at $4 a piece but I decided to just go with 3 colors (black, scarlet red and peacock blue). I think less is more anyway. I’ve been obsessing about poppies lately and so I chose those for my motif (see below).
Ta-da! The poppies were easy to draw and they were very forgiving. I recommend organic shapes especially if you’ve never done this sort of thing before (drawing on a slippery surface). After drawing on them, you just let the paint dry and then pop them in the oven for 3o mins at 300 degrees. You can view the entire Etsy tutorial here. There are lots more tips in there.
Fancy a spot ‘o tea?
